100th Meeting of the EURO Working Group on MCDA at Poznań University of Technology

100th Meeting of the EURO Working Group on MCDA at Poznan University of Technology

From 11 to 13 September 2025, Poznan University of Technology hosted the milestone 100th edition of the EURO Working Group on Multiple Criteria Decision Aiding (EWG-MCDA). The group was founded in 1975 by Professor Bernard Roy during the first EURO European Conference in Brussels. Its mission is to develop methods for multiple criteria decision aiding and to create a platform for knowledge exchange, research presentation, and scientific collaboration.

Poznan has hosted the group three times previously: in 1983 (18th edition), 1994 (39th edition), and 2007 (65th edition). The organization of the 100th meeting was entrusted to Poznan University of Technology in recognition of the contributions of the Intelligent Decision Support Systems Department to the group’s development. Prof. Miłosz Kadziński chaired both the organizational and scientific committees.

Venue and Theme
The conference was held at the Działyński Palace (Poznan Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences) and at the Lecture Centre and Technical Library of PUT. The main theme, “From Memories to the Future”, combined reflections on the group’s achievements with discussions on future challenges in decision support.

Nearly 60 researchers from Algeria, Belgium, Brazil, France, Greece, Spain, Canada, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, the UK, and Italy attended.

Commemorative Session
On the first day, a commemorative session was led by Prof. Roman Słowiński, founder of the Intelligent Decision Support Systems Department. Participants shared memories, stories of scientific collaboration, and photos documenting 50 years of EWG-MCDA.

Scientific Sessions
The scientific program included six sessions covering topics such as:

  • Plenary lecture by Maria Barbati, PhD (Bernard Roy Award 2025) on multicriteria optimization methods and portfolio optimization applications
  • Use of outranking approaches in decision-making problems
  • Development of preference modeling and aggregation techniques
  • Multicriteria evaluation of energy solutions
  • Tools for sustainable decision-making
  • Improvement of decision models in terms of criteria, solution robustness, and stakeholder perspectives

The presentations sparked lively discussions and will influence the development of decision support methods in the coming years. The detailed program is available at: ewgmcda100.cs.put.poznan.pl
