Ceremonial Opening of the New Rectorate of Poznan University of Technology

On 28 November 2025, the Ceremonial Opening of the New Rectorate of Poznan University of Technology took place.

Two years after the signing of the construction contract, the building was officially put into use. The ceremony was attended by many distinguished guests, including the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Dr. Eng. Marcin Kulasek; the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Dr. Dariusz Standerski; the First Deputy Mayor of the City of Poznań, Mariusz Wiśniewski; the Chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Technical Universities and Rector of Lodz University of Technology, Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik; the Rector of Adam Mickiewicz University, Prof. Bogumiła Kaniewska; the Chair of the University Council, Jolanta Musielak; the President of the Management Board of Mostostal Warszawa, Jorge Calabuig Ferré; as well as many other prominent guests.

The new Rectorate features:

  • a glass cuboid with stone pilasters, combining modern design with references to the traditions of Poznan University of Technology,
  • 5,966 m² of usable floor space,
  • 17,950 m³ of usable volume,
  • technical and technological facilities with a total area of 1,279 m²,
  • five storeys – one underground and four above ground.

A nearly zero-energy building:

  • three heat pumps integrated with a system of heating and cooling beams,
  • 12 geothermal boreholes, each 200 meters deep,
  • 234 photovoltaic panels with a total capacity of 97 kWp,
  • a campus-wide heat distribution system connecting multiple buildings.

During the ceremony, the Minister of Science and Higher Education also presented the “Meritorious for Polish Science – Sapientia et Veritas” medal to the Rector of Poznan University of Technology, Prof. Teofil Jesionowski. The award recognises his outstanding contribution to the development of science, including research on advanced materials and nanomedicine.
