On 16 February, the ESA Spaceship Poland team took part in a study visit to the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), the European Space Agency's (ESA) largest technical centre.
During the visit, participants were introduced to an overview of ESA's current missions and the centre's state-of-the-art research and development infrastructure. They toured the Human–Robot Interaction Laboratory, the Planetary Robotics Laboratory, as well as the Materials Laboratories and the EEE (Electrical, Electronic and Electromechanical) Laboratories. Of particular interest were presentations on 3D printing technologies for space applications and their potential use in future orbital and interplanetary missions.
The visit provided a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insight into how cutting-edge scientific research, engineering, and robotics are transformed into operational space missions. Participants observed the processes involved in designing, testing, and qualifying technologies that are ultimately deployed aboard European satellites and space probes.
The study visit was attended by Dr. Eng. Krzysztof Walas, Dr. Eng. Marek Kraft, Dr. Eng. Julia Gościańska-Łowińska, Dr. Eng. Bartosz Ptak, MSc Eng. Dominik Pieczyński, MSc Eng. Tomasz Staniszewski-Kozak, as well as participants from the first and second editions of the ESA Spaceship Poland programme.
The experience represents an important step in developing the expertise of the next generation of space professionals while strengthening international cooperation in the field of advanced space technologies.
