According to the European Patent Office report on new technologies originating from universities, Germany, France, Great Britain and Italy are the leaders in terms of the total number of academic patent applications.
Poland ranks 14th. Polish universities are the source of 1.25% of European academic patent applications (1,341 in total). The University of Warsaw (274), AGH University of Science and Technology (115) and Warsaw University of Technology (110) can boast the largest number of patents. Poznan University of Technology and Wroclaw University of Science and Technology rounded out the top five.
The report is the first comprehensive analysis of its kind and is based on data from 1,200 European universities that were the source of patent applications to the EPO in the years 2000-2020.
