Gala Night – Celebrating Our Buddies

Red carpet, fanfare, applause, a handshake from the Rector, and plenty of positive energy – this was the atmosphere of an evening dedicated to the students who help others feel at home at Poznan University of Technology.

On 30 May, we held the Gala Night, during which we recognized the most dedicated participants of the Buddy Program. They are often among the very first people international students meet upon arriving in Poznań.

Moving to a new country is an exciting adventure, but it also comes with many questions and challenges. A new city, a new university, new people, and an unfamiliar daily routine can feel overwhelming at first. In these moments, the support of our Buddies becomes invaluable. As student volunteers, they help newcomers navigate campus life, explain the essentials of studying and living in Poznań, and, most importantly, ensure that no student feels alone.

Being a Buddy, however, is about much more than providing practical assistance. It means being open to others, building connections across borders and cultures, and creating a community where everyone feels welcome. Thanks to their dedication, the international community at Poznan University of Technology continues to become more inclusive, vibrant, and diverse.

The Gala Night was an opportunity to thank all Buddies for their time, energy, and commitment, while also recognizing those who made an exceptional contribution to supporting international students throughout the past academic year.

Among the guests were Professor Mariusz Głąbowski, Ph.D., D.Sc., Vice-Rector for International Relations Office, and Magdalena Zawirska-Wolniewicz, Head of the International Relations Office, who emphasized the vital role Buddies play in helping international students adapt to their new environment, as well as the importance of their kindness, openness, and willingness to help.

The evening’s unique atmosphere was further enhanced by our alumni, Cyprian Jeremy and Sofia Ivanko, who, despite having completed their studies at PUT, remain closely connected to the University’s international community.

It was an evening filled with smiles, heartfelt moments, cherished memories, and inspiring stories. We would like to thank all our Buddies for helping to make Poznan University of Technology a place that embraces diversity and welcomes the world.
