On September 22-26, 2024, the 4th International Conference Green Technology for Sustainable Environment 2024 (GTSE24) took place in the buildings of the Poznan University of Technology. After the successes of the previous editions of the GTSE conferences in Hanoi (Vietnam, 2017), Ho Chi Min City (Vietnam, 2019) and Taipei (Taiwan, 2022), the event was held for the first time in Europe. The GTSE conferences provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences for many outstanding scientists from around the world, working on solutions that improve the quality of our environment and support sustainable development.
The conference began with the “Meet the Editors” workshops with the participation of editors of scientific journals: Prof. Anne S. Meyer (Technical University of Denmark, Editor in the journal Biotechnology Advances); Prof. Janusz Pawliszyn (University of Waterloo, Editor-in-Chief of Trends in Analytical Chemistry and Green Analytical Chemistry); Jacob de Boer (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Co-Editor-in-Chief of Chemosphere); prof. Long D. Nghiem (University of Technology Sydney, Co-Editor-in-Chief of Environmental Technology & Innovation) and a representative of Elsevier (Rob van Daalen, Senior Publisher for Sustainable Chemistry and Colloid Science at Elsevier). The discussion within this panel was led by the Rector of PUT, prof. Teofil Jesionowski. After the workshop-discussion panel, the exchange of views was continued within the Welcome reception.
On Monday, September 23, 2024, the conference was officially opened with the participation of Prof. Teofil Jesionowski and GTSE Chairperson Prof. Long D. Nhgiem (University of Technology Sydney). Plenary lectures were given by Prof. Anne S. Meyer (Technical University of Denmark) and Prof. Jacob de Boer (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam). The conference continued in the following days as part of the planned scientific sessions.
The conference participants also had the opportunity to participate in an interesting discussion entitled Squeeze Every Last Drop: the current and the future of the wastewater, led by Prof. Filip Ciesielczyk (Poznan University of Technology), and the main panelists were Paweł Chudziński, PhD (President of Aquanet Poznań) and Andrzej Listowski, PhD (Manager of Water and Energy, Sydney Olympic Park), which took place during the away session at the PUT airport in Kakolewo. It was also an opportunity to present the diverse university infrastructure and to establish contacts between the participants of the event.
The culmination of the conference were scientific sessions on Thursday, September 26, during which plenary lectures were given by prof. Damia Barcelo (University of Almeria), prof. Jorg Rinklebe (Wuppertal University) and prof. Long D. Nghiem (University of Technology Sydney).
The next conference in the GTSE series is planned for 2026, and will be organized by Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) from Indonesia.
The GTSE24 conference was co-organized by the Poznan University of Technology, University of Technology Sydney (Australia) and the Politechnika Innowacje foundation. The chairman of the GTSE24 scientific committee was Prof. Teofil Jesionowski, and the chairman of the organizing committee was prof. Jakub Zdarta.

The conference was held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Science Dariusz Wieczorek; Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region Marek Woźniak; Mayor of the City of Poznan Jacek Jaśkowiak; the National Agency for Academic Exchange, the European Chemical Society and the Polish Chemical Society.
