New Wings at the Kakolewo Campus

Two Aircraft Added to the Educational and Exhibition Resources of Poznan University of Technology Campus in Kąkolewo

The Poznan University of Technology campus in Kąkolewo has expanded its educational and exhibition resources with the addition of two aircraft: the SU-22M4 “Fitter” and the TS-11 “Iskra.”

Thanks to the efforts of Prof. Tomasz Łodygowski and Sławomir Szrama, PhD (Faculty of Civil and Transport Engineering; Institute of Drives and Aviation), the aircraft were acquired from the resources of the Polish Air Force through a Ministry of National Defence competition supporting institutions that promote aviation and national defense. The SU-22M4 was delivered from the 21st Air Base in Świdwin, and the TS-11 from the 41st Training Air Base in Dęblin. The transport and assembly of the aircraft—both considerable logistical challenges due to the size of the convoy—were carried out flawlessly by specialists from the 16th Repair Battalion in Jarocin.

The SU-22M4 is a front-line fighter-bomber designed to combat both moving and stationary ground and naval targets, and to a limited extent, maneuvering air targets. The TS-11 “Iskra” is a basic jet aircraft used by the Polish Air Force for pilot training, including flight operations and weapons handling. Designed in 1957 by a team led by Tadeusz Sołtyk, it was the first Polish aircraft powered by a jet engine.

These aircraft will serve as invaluable educational tools for the Aviation degree program. Students will gain hands-on experience and a practical understanding of the structure, design, and equipment of combat and training aircraft used by the armed forces.
