Orientation Day in a New Format – a Joint Meeting of International Students

On September 29, Poznan University of Technology welcomed its international students. For the first time, the event took a new form – both full-cycle degree students and those arriving for a semester or a year under the Erasmus+ and bilateral exchange programmes participated together. At the same time, the event was streamed online for students who had not yet obtained their visas or arrived in Poznań.

Our academic community has grown with the arrival of young people not only from neighbouring countries such as Ukraine and Belarus, but also from distant places including Japan, Mongolia, Kuwait, the United States, Moldova, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Mexico, Peru, and Taiwan. The Poznan University of Technology family has expanded to include students from over 35 countries!

The event was honoured by the presence of Vice-Rector for International Relations, Professor Mariusz Głąbowski, who welcomed the new students and wished them much success in their studies and great satisfaction during their time at our University.

The meeting, organised by the International Relations Office, featured guests from various institutions such as the Poznań City Hall,  the Office of Wielkopolska province in Poznan,  the Regional Police Headquarters in Poznań, the National Health Fund of Poland, Migrant Info Point, and the Border Guard

Thanks to their presentations, students received key information about academic life and living in Poland. Participants learned, among other things, about residence legalisation procedures, voluntary health insurance options, the city’s cultural and social offerings, and potential challenges they might face during their studies. Students were also introduced to the most important points of the study regulations and to international initiatives such as Erasmus+, EUNICE, and the student organisation ESN.

For many years, Orientation Day has been a permanent feature in the academic calendar of the Poznan University of Technology. The event combines practical information with inspiring presentations that help students understand not only how the University operates, but also the culture and everyday life in Poznań. A highlight of this year’s edition was the remarkable diversity of countries represented by our students, perfectly reflecting the richness of cultures present at the event.

The new format of Orientation Day attracted great interest – more than 350 participants took part. The meeting created a valuable opportunity for building relationships between full-degree and exchange students. The University once again demonstrated its strong commitment to supporting the integration of international students, ensuring their well-being, and creating an environment conducive to effective learning and personal development.
