This year, students from 52 countries around the world are beginning their academic journey at Poznan University of Technology. On September 29, newly admitted international students took part in Orientation Day, an event designed to help them get to know the university, learn about studying and living in Poznań, and, above all, feel part of the international community of PUT.
This year’s autumn intake once again demonstrates that Poznan University of Technology attracts young people from many different parts of the world. Among the new students are representatives of countries such as Cambodia, Mozambique, South Sudan, Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Nepal, Malawi, and Botswana.
Such a diverse mix of nationalities, cultures, and experiences enriches our academic community and creates an environment where students can not only gain knowledge, but also discover different perspectives, develop intercultural skills, and build international connections.
Orientation Day – A Good Start to Student Life at PUT
Starting university in another country brings not only exciting opportunities but also a number of challenges related to living in a new country, navigating a new city, and adapting to a different academic environment. That is why Orientation Day is an important part of the support Poznan University of Technology provides to international students from the very beginning of their studies.
During the event, participants received essential information about safety, university procedures, academic life, and student services. They also had the opportunity to ask practical questions and learn where to seek assistance and support during their first weeks at the university.
A particularly important role in preparing and running Orientation Day was played by the BUDDies of the International Relations Office. BUDDies are Poznan University of Technology students who act as mentors and guides for international students. They help newcomers navigate their new academic environment, share their own experiences, and support them as they take their first steps at the university and in Poznań.
During Orientation Day, the BUDDies answered questions about student life, guided participants to the appropriate information points, and helped them with various practical matters. For many new international students, they were the first direct point of contact with the student community at PUT.
Their involvement demonstrates that the internationalisation of Poznan University of Technology is not only about welcoming students from different countries, but also about creating an open and supportive academic environment based on cooperation, mutual support, and the exchange of experiences.
Orientation Day was therefore much more than an introductory information session. It was an opportunity to meet new people, discover the university, ask questions, and begin building relationships that will become an important part of the students’ experience of studying abroad.
52 countries, dozens of cultures and experiences, one academic community. Welcome to Poznan University of Technology!
