Poznan University of Technology Awarded NAWA Interventional Grants Program Funding

An international research team led by Assoc. Prof. Piotr Sielicki has received support from the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) for the implementation of the project titled "Chachapoyas Funerary Traditions: Interdisciplinary Research Methods in the Process of Registering and Protecting Peru’s National Heritage."

The research project aims to document, preserve, and protect cultural heritage in the Karajía region, as well as to search for new archaeological sites—particularly remnants of the Chachapoyas culture, which developed in the pre-Columbian era in northeastern Peru. In recent months, significant changes have been observed that negatively affect the conservation and protection of the Monumental Archaeological Zone of Karajía, a unique element of Peru's national heritage. Climate change and natural disasters have contributed to the emergence of various factors accelerating the degradation of this valuable cultural landscape.

Thanks to the NAWA Interventional Grants Program, the Polish–Peruvian team will be able to conduct field research directly in the Amazon region in northeastern Peru.

Congratulations!
