Poznan University of Technology in the Space League – We Have Joined ESA Phi-Lab Net

Poznan University of Technology has been selected by the European Space Agency (ESA), through a competitive process, to lead the prestigious ESA Phi-Lab Poland initiative as part of the ScaleUp programme.

The university is now one of eight European local administrators appointed by ESA to support the development of the European space sector.

Focus Areas

The ESA Phi-Lab Poland initiative will concentrate on the following research domains: space robotics, autonomy, Artificial intelligence (AI), earth surface observation

The project is carried out by a consortium consisting of: Poznan University of Technology (Coordinator) and Warsaw University of Technology (Partner)

The initiative is led by the following representatives:

  • Julia Gościańska-Łowińska – Project Manager, WP5 Leader (PUT)
  • Krzysztof Walas – Deputy Manager for Science, WP1 Leader (PUT)
  • Marek Kraft – Science Manager, WP2 Leader (PUT)
  • Łukasz Sztern – Commercialisation Leader, WP3 Leader (WUT)

The main goals of the ESA Phi-Lab Poland initiative include:

  • Supporting research projects and providing access to research infrastructure through collaboration with economic operators
  • Assembling a team of specialists in space robotics, AI, and Earth observation to help raise the technology readiness level (TRL) of innovations developed in the Polish space sector
  • Developing a strong collaborative ecosystem between academia and industry
  • Building synergies with other ESA programmes such as the ESA Business Incubation Centre Poland and the ESA Technology Broker Poland

The official launch of ESA Phi-Lab Poland will take place on April 4 at the Marshal's Office of the Greater Poland Voivodeship in Poznan during the Space Industry Day, organized by the Polish Space Agency (POLSA).
