Aerospace Data Transmission (POLYITAN)

Aerospace Data Transmission (POLYITAN)

The investment phase of another project at the Kąkolewo Campus has been completed. A satellite communication station equipped with two robotic transmitting and receiving antennas has been established.

As part of the Aerospace Data Transmission (POLYITAN) project, a satellite communication station equipped with two robotic transmitting and receiving antennas (research and development antenna and testing and validation antenna for research and development activities) has been constructed, placed on two lattice towers. The station is equipped with a real-time spectrum analyzer at 30 GHz, a 30 GHz radio frequency (RF) generator, software-defined radio (SDR) modules with a set of six control computers, a hypothesis testing cluster set, a server, and control centre software for managing the operation of transmitting and receiving antennas and conducting satellite communication, as well as software for acquiring, collecting, and processing satellite imaging data.

Thanks to the established satellite communication station, communication with Earth's artificial satellites will be possible, as well as testing and validation of operational prototypes resulting from research and development activities in research areas such as:

  • transmitting and receiving channel construction for radio communication satellite channels in radio frequency bands above 5GHz,

  • control algorithms for high-efficiency radio communication satellite channels in bands above 5GHz,

  • collecting and sharing (including archiving) large volumes of Earth surface imaging data obtained through direct communication with Earth's artificial satellites, as well as edge processing of this data.
