Competition for the ABB – PUT award on the podium!

On Friday, June 14, 2024, during a conference held at the ABB Corporate Technology Centre in Krakow, the 21st gala of winners of the ABB award competition for the best master's, engineering and doctoral theses were held.  It was the 21st edition of the competition, which promotes innovative solutions in areas such as automation, industrial diagnostics, power electronics, artificial intelligence and nanotechnology. The competition includes one main prize and two equivalent distinctions.

The main prize was won by Piotr Kuwałek, PhD from the Faculty of Automation, Robotics and Electrical Engineering of the Poznan University of Technology. The award was granted for the doctoral thesis entitled "Diagnostics of voltage fluctuations aimed at identifying and locating troublesome receivers in power networks." The supervisor of the work was prof.  Grzegorz Wiczyński. During the gala, the winner presented his solution focusing on voltage fluctuations in the power grid. The technologies he has developed may change the approach to energy management and power quality monitoring in various sectors.

“This year's winners confirm the thesis contained in the report on the competencies of the engineer of the future. The traditional image of an engineer focusing solely on technology is becoming incomplete. A technical person must also be a social person, a bit of a sociologist, a bit of an ethicist, and a bit of an economist. He must combine technical knowledge with a deep awareness of the impact of his work on society, the economy and the environment," summarized the host of the meeting, director of the ABB Corporate Center in Krakow, Przemysław Zakrzewski
