Open Letter of the Rector of Poznan University of Technology

Ladies and Gentlemen,

In recent months, numerous unfavourable comments have appeared in the media and public sphere regarding the Poznan University of Technology, implying our involvement in one side of the political conflict in the country.

On behalf of the Academic Community of the Poznan University of Technology, I express our outrage at such unfair treatment of the University, which during its 100-year history has been faithful to academic traditions and the principles of social coexistence, implemented the ideas of grassroots work and apolitical education, and fulfilled its primary mission with dedication, educating the next generations of Polish engineers.

Our mission has always been to educate young people in the technical sciences, but our role extends beyond that. As a university, we are also responsible for shaping our students' worldviews and social attitudes to reflect respect for diversity and acceptance of differing perspectives. We have strived to fulfil this mission consistently since our inception. We believe that our current recognition and prestige stem, in part, from our understanding of contemporary social issues and problems, which fosters good cooperation with the regional and national socio-economic environment.

Thanks to many projects undertaken together with various national and international organizations, as well as local government authorities, including the Mayor of Poznan and the Marshal of the Greater Poland Voivodeship, to name just some of the many well-wishers, the university can function in decent conditions and implement the mission entrusted to it, ensuring young people and employees with appropriate conditions for education, work and personal development.

Ladies and gentlemen,

The Poznan University of Technology was, is and will be part of the academic community of Poznan, an inseparable element of Greater Poland and one of the leading universities in the country, remaining apolitical.

The Poznan University of Technology is a university with tradition, but also with the prospect of operating based on modern technologies, research and teaching centres, with a growing educational base, but above all with people, employees, PhD students and students who, with their work and commitment, build the prestige of their Alma Mater, the University of Sustainable Development, the University of the Future.

We urge that the good name of Poznan University of Technology not be exploited for any unfair purposes, including political agendas.

On behalf of the Academic Community of Poznan University of Technology,

Rector

Prof. Teofil Jesionowski
