Prof. Benoit Goosens visits PUT

On April 25, we had the honour of receiving prof. Benoit Goosens - director of the Danau Girang Field Center (DGFC), located in the protected area of ​​the Lower Kinabatangan Nature Reserve in the state of Sabah in Malaysian Borneo.

The center's research aims to mitigate the effects of biodiversity loss in Borneo by understanding the impact of habitat fragmentation on the ecosystem and encouraging active on-site conservation, engagement with non-governmental organizations, stakeholders and policy makers.

The visit was attended by representatives of UMWW: Piotr Kurzawski - Head of the Department of Economy, Vice-Rector for Development and Cooperation with the Economy Prof. Ph.D. engineer Michał Wieczorowski, Ph.D. Eng. Marek Kraft - assistant professor at the Robotics Department, Faculty of Automation, Robotics and Electrical Engineering, and Beata Kocur - deputy head of the International Cooperation Department.

During the meeting, the research profile of the facility and planned activities within which cooperation with the Poznan University of Technology would be desirable were presented.

The Vice-Rector and Mr Marek Kraft presented the possibilities of future cooperation in the use of cameras and drones to observe animal species such as the Bornean elephant, leopard, crocodile, pangolin, etc.

We hope that prof. Benoit Goosens' visit will result in cooperation taking advantage of the potential of both parties.
