Students of the Poznan University of Technology on the podium of the Global Final of the ICT Competition

On May 23, the Huawei ICT 2023-2024 Global Final Practice Competition took place at the Huawei headquarters in Shenzhen. 160,000 students from all over the world took part in this year's edition. The jury assessed both practical skills and innovative sense. After further eliminations at the national and regional level, 9 teams from Spain, Italy, Turkey, Poland and Greece were selected to represent Europe in the world finals of the competition in Shenzhen, China.

The global finale of the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 is divided into four tracks: Network, Cloud, Computing and AI. At each stage, students' skills were tested in terms of theoretical knowledge, practical skills and ability to work in a team. In the final, the teams had to face laboratory work in practice during 8-hour design sprints.

Two teams from the Poznan University of Technology were not only selected for the Global Final and went on a trip to Shenzhen, but also returned to the country with medals and took high places on the podium. The main prize in the Network path was won by Arkadiusz Niedziela, Jan Pokrywczyński and Maksymilian Grodzki, second-year students of ICT, supervised by Dr. Paweł Pirosz.

A team of computer science students led by Professor Piotr Zwierzykowski, including Kacper Babiak, Alan Grądecki and Maciej Kowalski, took second place in the Cloud path.

„We are pleased with both the competition results and the time spent in China. We had a chance to test our strength and compete with students from all over the world. We are very happy that we could take part in this event and we hope that we will be able to repeat our success next year, this time on different paths," said Arkadiusz Niedziela after the announcement of the competition results.

“I am very happy with the achievements of our students, we are proud of them. I only instilled in them the passion for computer networks, together with prof. Piotr Zwierzykowski, I gave them a seed from which they grew a tree following the path of Huawei ICT Academy. This is how they became one of the best in the world.” – said Paweł Pirosz.

During the event, Huawei experts managing teams dealing with these paths, representing individual groups of students, spoke.

Yu Shupeng, Chief Operation Expert of Huawei Cloud Developer Alliance, emphasized the importance of the cloud as the foundation of the innovation ecosystem. Modern technologies such as baseline models are rapidly changing the landscape of various industries, supporting the construction of a digital world that is inclusive and accessible to all. Huawei is building a robust ecosystem for cloud solutions to help developers develop their applications. By participating in the Huawei ICT competition, students can develop their technical and practical skills, becoming experts in the field of cloud computing.

- Huawei has launched a wide range of talent development activities - such as core software courses, teacher training, resource support, community internships, competitions and expert certification - to develop core software talent. We hope that through the Huawei ICT competition, students can learn and develop and contribute to the development of the core software industry. - said Jason Wang, Director of Huawei Basic Software Talent Development

As added by Jacky Li, Huawei Ascend Developer Ecosystem Manager:

- Huawei is focusing on developing core software and hardware to build a strong foundation for AI computing, accelerating the construction of a comprehensive ecosystem and contributing to digital transformation. We hope that through the Huawei ICT Competition, students will be able to delve into artificial intelligence, explore model algorithms, accelerate the integration of AI into various industries, and promote technological innovation. Together we can build a sustainable and resilient AI ecosystem.

Huawei ICT Competition is an annual ICT event initiated by Huawei, providing international competition and a communication platform for students around the world. Since its establishment in 2015 the international ICT competition attracted a total of 750,000 students from over 2,000 colleges and universities from 80 countries. The ICT Academy and ICT Competition help students expand their knowledge and practical skills in developing their creative and innovative abilities to use new technologies and platforms, promoting scientific and technological development, developing new ICT talents and contributing to global digital integration.
