The latest achievements of the REUNICE project within the H2020 program include promoting young talent, creating platforms that connect researchers and facilitate collaboration, developing tools to support integration, and organising internships and workshops for PhD students.
The EUNICE Research (REUNICE) project aimed to integrate research and innovation resources to build effective collaboration between science and society within the European University EUNICE. After three years of work, the project, co-financed by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program, has laid the groundwork for developing joint research activities and industrial partnerships. On October 24, 2024, a meeting of teams from the 10 partner universities of EUNICE was held at Poznan University of Technology, summarizing the project's achievements to date and outlining potential directions for its future development.
The meeting was opened by the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Prof. Mariusz Głąbowski, and the REUNICE project leader, Prof. Paweł Śniatała. Following the opening, attendees had the opportunity to listen to two guest lectures. Marek Zmuda, PhD System Security Architect at Intel Corporation, delivered a lecture titled "Cooperation with Academic Communities," emphasizing the benefits of academic-industry partnerships for companies and universities. Prof. Anna Kobusińska of Poznan University of Technology, in her speech titled "Demystifying the Power of Blockchain: From Core Concepts to Applications," discussed potential applications of blockchain technology in academia, such as using cryptocurrency for tuition payments or smart contracts for verifying academic achievements.
Michał Weissenberg, the REUNICE Project Officer, presented the project’s latest achievements, including a professional coaching program for a young researcher applying for an MSCA grant, the creation of the Inclusive Communication Charter, and the development of an Open Science platform powered by artificial intelligence and blockchain technology, designed to support collaboration among researchers (currently in the testing phase). The event provided an opportunity to discuss the next steps to ensure the sustainability of REUNICE initiatives, which will be adopted by the European University EUNICE as part of the EUNICE4U Erasmus+ project.
Over its three years of activity, REUNICE focused on developing a human resources management strategy for researchers, organizing research internships, training, and workshops for PhD students, as well as science outreach events, such as the travelling scientific photography exhibition "The Invisible Unveiled." The project also developed three platforms:
Expert Knowledge Exchange Platform powered by Catalyst – a bridge linking university units with social and industrial institutions.
Blockchain-based Open Science Collaboration Platform – using artificial intelligence to connect people working in similar research areas.
EUNICE European University AI Competence Centre – a platform bringing together AI specialists and resources from EUNICE partners, supporting idea exchange and collaboration with industrial and social partners.
The REUNICE project’s conclusion and the accompanying event highlighted the importance of scientific collaboration within the European Universities initiative. All those involved in the project expressed hope that the solutions developed will be successfully implemented and utilized within the framework of the European University EUNICE.
