From March 15 to 30, 2025, Poznan University of Technology (PUT) had the pleasure of hosting master's students from Caspian University of Technology and Engineering named after Sh. Yessenov for a scientific and academic internship. This program was organized by the Faculty of Computing and Telecommunications in collaboration with the International Relations Office, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging academic experience. Olga Vakhrina, a specialist of the International Relations Office, was in charge of this internship, overseeing its successful execution.
A well-structured and immersive program
The internship program was meticulously designed to provide students with in-depth exposure to modern IT technologies and telecommunications. The first few days were dedicated to familiarizing students with the university’s structure, research facilities, and academic staff. An official meeting was held with Mr. Damian Karwowski, Vice Dean of the Faculty, who provided an insightful overview of PUT’s history, international partnerships, and research initiatives. Subsequently, students had the opportunity to meet Mr Marek Wojciechowski, Vice Dean of the Faculty, and explore state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with cutting-edge technology.
Expert-led lectures and practical training
A significant component of the internship was the series of expert-led lectures and hands-on sessions that covered various advanced topics in IT and telecommunications:
- Dr. Can Ding delivered an engaging lecture on "Antennas," discussing different types, applications, and the fundamentals of electromagnetic wave propagation and radio frequency engineering.
- Professor Damian Karwowski led a scientific session on "Evolution or Revolution? Three Decades of Development of Video Compression Methods," covering advancements from MPEG-2 technology to the newest MPEG-I VVC technology.
- Dr. Tomasz Grajek presented on "Multimedia Communications," focusing on audio and video transmission technologies, coding methods, and multimedia network structures.
- Mgr. Błażej Szydełko conducted a lecture on "Virtual Reality Technology," discussing its applications in education, medicine, industry, and gaming. This session included a practical workshop, where students worked with VR glasses and the Skaniverse platform to model objects in 3D space and interact within a virtual environment.
A transformative learning experience
The two-week internship at PUT was an invaluable opportunity for students to expand their knowledge. The combination of theoretical lectures, hands-on activities, and scientific discussions provided a solid foundation in cutting-edge technologies. Particularly, the courses on Multimedia Systems and Virtual Reality Technologies inspired students to explore new research directions and innovations in their fields.
Beyond academics, the program fostered international collaboration and cultural exchange. The students were also invited to Orientation Day and the Intercultural Café, where they had the chance to integrate with the international students, present the culture of Kazakhstan, and spoke about stereotypes and values in different countries
