On March 12, a special event took place in the PUT Library — the unveiling of a mural designed by Prof. Radosław Barka from the Faculty of Architecture. The mural was created by a team of artists from the Green Space Foundation, represented by Dominik Dziedzina.
This unique ceremony was attended by many distinguished guests. In addition to the mural’s creators and, of course, library staff, attendees included:
- Prof. Wojciech Sumelka – Vice-Rector for Research,
- Prof. Agnieszka Misztal – Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education,
- Joanna Kliś – Deputy Chancellor,
- Dr. Barbara Świt-Jankowska, Eng., Arch. – Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Architecture,
- Beata Czerkas – Head of the Information and Promotion Department.
The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Marian Fikus, the architect behind the Lecture Centre and the person without whom the library building on Piotrowo would not exist. He not only approved the mural’s concept but, as a mentor to Prof. Barka, continues to act as a guiding spirit overseeing the transformation of the library space.
A highlight of the gathering was a talk by Prof. Barka, who shared his artistic journey, revealing the concept behind the mural and explaining its — as it turned out — deeply symbolic elements. His narrative gave the artwork broader context and depth, inviting personal interpretations and associations.
It is also worth noting the motivation behind this unique initiative. In her opening remarks, Małgorzata Furgał, Director of the PUT Library, explained that the idea emerged from a desire to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the library’s founding. Additionally, the mural serves as a distinctive visual identity for the institution. From now on, the mural will symbolize the PUT Library — a point of pride and recognition.
Importantly, the space where the mural was created — the so-called “Aquarium” in the circulation area — will now serve as a relaxation and conversation zone, offering a space to unwind, reflect, and exchange ideas, all with knowledge at your fingertips and art before your eyes.
