According to the provisions of the Higher Education and Science Act, the rector of a university is elected by the Electoral College.
On March 25, 2024, the Electoral College of Poznan University of Technology elected the Rector for the 2024-2028 term.
For the second time, this position was entrusted to Professor Teofil Jesionowski, as confirmed by the election document signed by the Chairman of the College, Professor Marek Domański, in accordance with Article 24, Section 4, Item 1 of the Act.
„The future and dynamic development are two key aspects of the existence of the Poznan University of Technology.
Prof. Teofil Jesionowski is a chemist, engineer and proud graduate of the Poznan University of Technology.
Chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Technical Universities (2020-2024), coordinator of the strategic project within the European University EUNICE4U, and Polish Academy of Sciences member since 2020.
Area of scientific interests of prof. Jesionowski is closely related to developing technologies for advanced, functional materials dedicated to utilitarian applications, including processing plastics or polymer modification, neutralising water pollution with inorganic and organic compounds, catalysis, in biotechnology, medicine and electrochemistry. Numerous scientific studies also concern the development of the so-called "Green Chemistry".
This is the second term of office of prof. Jesionowski as the Rector of the Poznan University of Technology. The past 4 years have seen the highest scores in scientific evaluation - two disciplines with the A+ category, and the remaining seven with the A category, thanks to which the Poznan University of Technology has obtained the status of a university aspiring to the "Excellence Initiative - Research University" program.
The Poznan University of Technology became the leader of the European University EUNICE4U, a consortium of 10 universities with diverse scientific and teaching profiles.
Doctoral students and students were numerously awarded or distinguished for their spectacular successes by national and international institutions and bodies. The university's potential continues to grow as professor appointments increase.
New, attractive fields of study and postgraduate study programs have been created, complementary to market requirements, as well as an incentive program for academic teachers. It is worth emphasizing that the number of foreign scholars and students has increased several times.
By improving the technical and infrastructural level of the Poznan University of Technology, five projects were implemented on the Kąkolewo Campus, providing the opportunity to develop teaching and, above all, new areas of research and technology transfer. As the first innovative university in the country, we put into operation a photovoltaic farm with a capacity of 1 MW.
The "Central Administration Building" investment, commonly called the New Rectorate, has also been started. It will be an almost zero-energy facility, beautifully integrated into the surroundings of the Warta River and the entire Poznan University of Technology Campus.
„In the new term, the priority is the research university and obtaining scholarships for the best students in the second cycle of education.
Scholarships for the best, i.e. ministry-sponsored fields of study - we want to motivate the best master's students who wish to apply to the doctoral school and continue their work at the university - we need to invest in human capital.
“I am convinced and deeply believe that this will be a time when we will use the unlimited potential of the university, a new socio-political opening, cooperation with local governments and national institutions to build a strong Poznan University of Technology. I will make every effort to ensure that our university plays the role of a leading academic centre crucial for developing education, science and knowledge transfer.”
"The Poznan University of Technology - University of sustainable development, university of the future!"
