European Center for Bioinformatics and Genomics
The main aim of the project is the development of the Polish economy based on knowledge by equipping the European Center for Bioinformatics and Genomics (ECBiG) with modern, specialized and unique research equipment. Other objectives resulting from the general assumption of the project are as follows:
- increasing the competitiveness of Polish science
- development of strategic scientific research defined in the National Development Strategy
- improving the qualifications of scientists
- increasing the transfer of the result of R&D works to the economy
The overall goal of the project will be achieved through the expansion and modernization of the ECBiG infrastructure and as a result, four new experimental laboratories will be created. Together they will establish an effective research structure, concentrating the entire path of genomics and bioinformatics research in one place and linking all levels of analyzes (structural, functional and proteomic). The integration of scientific processes will be realized owing to equipping the ECBiG with specialized research equipment that can be used nationwide and worldwide.
Retrofitting and integrating the dispersed ECBiG laboratories will be conducive to the improvement of strategic scientific research defined in the National Development Strategy. Moreover, conditions will be created for conducting high-quality scientific research suitable to apply in socio-economic practice.
As part of the project, the applicants planned the purchase of equipment and fittings necessary to achieve the general and specific objectives of the project. They have extensive infrastructure (premises and equipment), which they use to carry out their current activities. However, these resources and the dispersion of apparatus between both centres make it difficult to implement complex research problems.
